The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Participants may attend the half-day or full-day program. Quality staffing, caregiver participation and community involvement all have a part in making the program a success. At Generations we promote the safety and well-being of each participant. Special emphasis is placed on establishing a sense of security and self-esteem. At all times, differences in interest and personality are respected. In order to accomplish this, we offer a wide range of activities that are tailored to the individual, which may include table games, outside walks, range of motion exercises and time spent with children.
Some of the typical activities on a daily basis:
- Education – daily news about the events in our community and around the world
- Recreation –sing along, board games, visits to child care classrooms; art projects and gardening
- Physical Fitness –daily exercise class
- Party – seasonal parties, special events and visiting guests
- Intergenerational – daily activities with children from the child care center
- Meals – includes breakfast, lunch and snacks
Our Intergenerational Activities Make Us Unique!
This means children and seniors come together regularly to get to know each other, work on activities and share their thoughts. Both children and seniors benefit from these relationships in so many ways. Simply watching their faces is clear evidence of the joy created when the generations mingle. Generations is committed to bringing the young and old together.
Benefits of the Intergenerational Programming:
Enhanced Socialization: Older adults remain productive, useful and contributing members of society. They increase interaction with children and youth and engage more with one another to prevent isolation in later years.
Stimulating Learning: Older adults learn new innovations and technologies from their younger counterparts as children encourage the seniors to participate.
Increased Emotional Support: Inter-generational programs afford older adults an opportunity to participate in a meaningful activity. This decreases loneliness, boredom and depression while increasing self-esteem.
Improved Health: Helping children in any way contributes to the maintenance of good health on the part of the senior. This can diminish the effect of psychological and physical diseases and disorders.
